Throw Down the Rope
A comment on the middlemen and fawning lackeys who help keep the obscenely wealthy and corrupt free of any accountability and consequence.
Descend with force enough and no one will show you the door.
Defend for long enough and no one will recall a time the hill wasn’t yours.
Pass down the cape, keep those crooked bones obscured from view.
Behind the drape, so much remains so hidden
from so many by so few.
Throw down the rope and we’ll forget everything we saw.
Throw down the rope and their dissent will drown before the shore.
Keep friends close, but it was to keep dependents closer still
Because with promise of belonging the hollow will contain any spill
By any means edit characters who don’t become the brand
Dim lights at certain scenes and no one will observe acts of less than perfect hand.
Throw down the rope and we’ll maintain demand for your supply
Throw down the rope and we’ll keep your powder dry.
Throw down the rope and we’ll patrol the sand it’s tied around
Throw down the rope and we’ll stand your stolen ground.
